The North Cotswolds Aikido Club is part of the Kai Shin Kai organisation.
Our aim is to run the club within a friendly environment without the machoism generally associated with martial arts clubs. Aikido is suitable for women & men, young or old (14 years minimum). No martial art experience is required although some members do practice (or have practiced) other arts such as karate, judo, taekwondo and kickboxing.
All instructors hold officially approved BAB coaching qualifications and are covered by professional indemnity insurance
Graham Cossey (3rd dan)
In his early twenties Graham achieved the grade of 1st kyu (brown belt) in Taekwondo before stopping training due to injury. He started his aikido training in 2002 at the Bicester Aikido Club which was headed at the time by sensei Vincent Sumpter (6th dan). Following sensei Vincent's relocation in 2005 the club has been under the guidance of sensei Martyn Tyas (4th dan).
Graham was awarded his black belt in February 2009 during a visit to KSK Italy (Yomi Shin Tai) and his 2nd dan in April 2011.
Graham founded the North Cotswolds Aikido Club in 2012.
In April 2018 Graham achieved the rank of 3rd dan.
Steve Souch (5th dan)
I was Vincent Sumpter's first student when he returned from Japan in 1977 after a three year posting with the RAF. While in Tokyo, Vince studied aikido and attained his 1st Dan black belt from Hombu Dojo, the martial art's world headquarters. I have been training ever since, attaining black belt in 1988. Teaching aikido for more than twenty-five years now, I reached the rank of 5th Dan in 2010.
